I am missing all of my first grade friends. Things are going to look different now, but I hope this website will help you find things to do that will be fun and helpful. I will update the website weekly, so check at the beginning of each week to see what new things are here. I am putting the suggested schedule here, as well as the activities that I emailed earlier. Starting Monday, March 23, there will be new activities to see. We are waiting for direction from the state of Kansas, so this may all change, but for the time being, this is my plan.
Mrs. Vernon's Suggested Schedule for At-Home Activities 8:00 General Reading Activities to Start the Day Read to yourself or with someone. Think about what is happening in the story. Think about the beginning, the middle and the end of the story. You might draw a picture of the main characters or of the setting (where the story takes place. 8:15 Basic Math Practice Activities Day 1 Add 11 to any number between 0 and 10. For instance, add 11+0, 11+1, 11+2, etc. Day 2 Add 11 to any number between 11 and 20 Day 3 Add 11 to any number between 21 and 30 8:45 Reading See reading activities from the At-Home Activities page. 9:45 Break for physical activity - If you have Internet access, google the Learning Station for brain break activities. 10:15 More Reading Activities Again, check reading activities from At-Home Activities page. 12:00 Science We are getting ready for a study of plants. Spelling/Sight Words - Sight words to practice: an, by, funny, has, just, book, any, give, going, said, let, knew
Math -
Science - Look at plants you have at home. Talk about the parts of the plant; the seeds, the roots, the stem, the leaves, and the flower and fruit. Talk about how the nutrients travel from the roots up through the stem and into the leaves. If you have a flower like a carnation or a rose, put it in water with food coloring and let your child predict what will happen in the next few days. You may want your child to watch this video from your cell phone or computer if you have access.
